Our autumn “bucket list” tree

In thinking about autumn and our family’s fall bucket list, I started brainstorming ideas for how to display our checklist in the house. Then, it hit me. What if we have an autumn tree where the checked off items must “fall” every time we complete a fun event! Brilliant! But, how the heck are we going to do that?

So, this is how my day started:

Wayde & I started with 3 bottles of paint, 3 paintbrushes & a piece of cardboard. And I just let him at it! No rules & just a diaper. He became Mr. Picasso for a full hour and concentrated on his masterpiece. He painted circled. He painted hands. He even painted “mama snake, dada snake and baby snake”. There was only one spill of green paint, but it was more moms’ fault then anyone! Next time, I’m putting down a shower curtain to catch the drippings!

Wayde was so proud of his masterpiece when he was done! Although, he had no idea that it would soon turn into about 30 little masterpiece leafs instead!

During Wayde’s nap, I cut tiny little leaves and wrote a bucket list item on the back of each one. Stung it with left over twine from our wedding and, ta-da! I found an old vase that we were no longer using and waited for wayde to wake up. For now for the harder part… finding a twig that was just right!

It didn’t take more than 10 minutes before I was walking down the sidewalk with a giant branch sticking out of the bottom, a toddler, and a dog. The worst part was walking across the park, where a birthday party was taking place and having awkward stares from all the adults. Hm… maybe I need to do my stick hunting in the dark? Or maybe that would make it all the worse!

Wayde helped mom find big rocks to put in the vase so the stick would stand up straight. He had fun trying to finding the “big rock” and “little rock” and seeing which ones would fit. Ya for having a park in your front yard with smooth rocks as the sidewalk décor!

Once we found enough rocks, we started the handing of the leaves! Here is our final result:

Now, if only I put this together inside in its place, instead of on our front porch!

So, we now have an Autumn bucket list tree. I’m looking forward to seeing the bucket list leaves fall & our family memories grow! See more photos of our day here: Autumn Tree
