First Fathers Day

After taking a 10 week hiatus to enjoy the first months of our sons life, we are now returning to blog spot! I can never describe in such immense detail the variety of emotions that we have experienced since April, but I can say they have hands down been the best moments of our lives. Wayde James is truly a precious joy, and he has two very, very proud parents! Since I am finally grasping the new mommy life & now having more quiet moments, I do hope to look back on the events of birth and Wayde’s first two months and write about each in detail. But for now, I will start from today on…

Yesterday was officially Wayde’s two month birthday. My eyes fill with tears as I cannot comprehend that time can go by so quickly. I feel as if it was just yesterday that we were welcoming Wayde into this world and meeting our son for the first time. I never thought possible to love like this! I just wish you could stop time each day, as the hours pass by as minutes and they are never enough. We have Wayde’s pediatrician appointment tomorrow, so we will have all details on his 8 week well baby check up shortly. All I know, is that he is not having any problem gaining weight, as his adorable rolls and double chins melt my heart!

Here are some new photos from his two month birthday!

But today, today was the special day. As today, is father’s day. Wyatt’s first father’s day, with many, many more to follow. I feel so blessed for Wayde to have such a strong, intelligent and loving role model in his life. One who will guide him down life’s unexpected path and teach him of all things to come. Their bond is already inseparable and inspiring, and it brings nothing but warmth and love to everyone around!

As we woke up early morning and wayde surprised Wyatt holding his 1st father’s day card, the family quickly got ready and hit the road. After swinging by for our favorite 1$ soda fix, we were all on the way to celebrate Wyatts first father’s day at Seaside Beach. The drive was quick, as we listened to the pouring rain drip on the sunroof and jack Johnson’s voice singing in the background. Relaxed and smiles on everyone’s face, as today was a good, good day.

As we arrived in Seaside, the clouds parted and the rain stopped as a gift from above. This was Waydes first trip to the beach, so we were both thrilled to be able to experience it with no rain in sight! With our stomach’s growling, we stepped into Normas for their famous clam chowder and shrimp salad lunch. Even though the service is always less than ideal and there were many screaming children sitting around us, they have great food & we truly enjoyed our meal together!

After finishing up our afternoon lunch, we grabbed our four legged son & hit the path to the beach! Willie was wagging his tail the whole way, as he heard the seagulls from the car & could hardly keep himself from jumping after them. As soon as we hit the sand, Willie jumped off his leash and scurried after those “flying squirrels”. Although he still does not enjoy the cold Pacific Ocean, he does LOVE the sand and all the new smells of the beach.

Wayder’s slept through most of our beach walk, but woke up immediately after we walked into “Kites and Things”, to purchase a fun surprise activity. Unfortunately, this was more of a joke for our family today, as we spend the remanding hours of our beach adventure running barefoot on the sand trying to get our new stunt kite off the ground. As children scampered around us with their Disney and animal kites in the air, the put us to shame, as we had to ask them for advice on how to even achieve lift of. After all of us were exhausted running up and down the beach, we decided to retire the kite for another day. We laughed in frustration of it never becoming airborne. But at least no one can say that we did not give it our best (and lots of sweat too!).

Willie enjoyed digging in the sand and watching over brother Wayde, on his first beach adventure. He even decided to dig a whole right by our site, and kick sand all over our precious little one. At least Wayde is not scared of anything and is use to brothers barking and digging! Although Wayde was wrapped up for most of the day outside, he was able to put his little feet in the sand for a quick moment and photo.

Heres Waydes first steps in the sand!

Before leaving, we had to stop by and get Wyatt’s first elephant ear. Although he thought they would be similar to a funnel cake, he was delightfully surprised as he took a bite into his half cinnamon and sugar, half peanut butter and chocolate dessert. The only words that left his mouth for the next 5 minutes between bites were “oh my god!”. Needless to say, I think I may have started a new addiction for him!

We ran across the street before leaving, and walked into the seaside arcade. As we watched the madhouse of kids swarm for tickets and tokens, we decided to play a few racing games and ski ball. 5 dollars, 6 tickets, 1 new army figure toy, and countless laughs later, we were on the road home.

Days like this make you count every moment in life as a miracle and enjoy every passing second with those you love most. As we gather into the car covered with sand, I smile as Wyatt secretly tells Wayde “I love you buddy. Thank you for the best father’s day ever”. Those words made the whole day even better.

Coming home, Wayde, Willie and I ran to visit one of the other most loving & special men in our lives, my dad! Wayde stopped by to say happy first papa’s day and shower everyone with smiles and kisses; Willie played with puppy Dakota and chased all the squirrels from sight. Willie even got a bath from grandma to top the night off!

After a few Skype calls with our Kansas family and sending all our love via internet communication, we are now settling in for the night of family cuddling, with a large bag of popcorn and whale wars on the TV. BLESSED LIFE!

Once again, we are just so thankful to have such amazing men in our lives in Kansas and Portland, as fathers, uncles, brothers, cousins and friends. Happy father’s day to every dad who makes a different in our lives and we continue to look up to and admire. We LOVE YOU & are blessed by you daily!! Our world is greater for men like you!
